“In this workshop I want to compile decades of exercises into a freeform dance production. Through intense bodily perception and acute spatial awareness, the long-lasting exercises become enriched by constantly developing guidelines. As the body’s energies unfurl over the course of the tasks, the body itself will begin to produce new inventiveness and nuances, and each dancer can tap into their skills in creative new ways. The body’s own intrinsic, natural timing is the focus of this workshop. The finished piece’s scenes and landscapes are born through the work itself, rather than through pre-formed plans. The dancer is my main point of interest, and it shows in the finished works. Whatever your style, you can use everything you’ve learned to create something great.”

Choreographer Ervi Sirén is a forerunner in the field of Finnish modern dance. She has worked as a dancer, choreographer, and pedagogue for more than fifty years. Most of her teaching has been at the Helsinki Theater Academy in her capacity as a lecturer and professor. Many of her ex-students are counted among the brightest stars in the world of contemporary dance. Sirén’s works have been performed broadly in Finland and Europe, as well as in Japan, South Korea and Latin America.
