Vera Nevanlinna performs her adaptation of the choreography News by Deborah Hay, a living legend of modern dance. The choreography consists of a written script, which is adapted into an unique solo.

Vera Nevanlinna

Vera Nevanlinna (b. 1972) has graduated as a dancer with M.A. in Dance Studies from the Department of Dance, The Theater Academy of Finland in 1998. Since then she has been working as a freelance-dancer and a -choreographer and has taken extra studies in dance in New York with Rosane Chamecki & Andrea Lerner, Miguel Gutierrez, Barbara Mahler and Sara Pearson & Patrik Widrig among others. Before dance studies Nevanlinna graduated as a freelance photographer from Muurla Folkhighschool.

Nevanlinna has been dancing in Ariane Anthony's, Rosane Chamecki & Andrea Lerner's, Tim Fieldmann's, Katarina McAlester's, Katri Soini's and Paula Tuovinen's pieces among others. She was a dancer in the M.A.D. Dancecompany 2001-2003 and was one of the four founders of the Dance Company Gruppen Fyra. At the moment she is a member of the Dance Company Varjoryhmä.

Nevanlinna's last long choreography was a solopiece for herself called V. It was performed with a rock band in the rock club Tavastia in Helsinki and in Zodiak- Center for New Dance in 2006. Band called Sumuisten Vuorten Gorillat played the music live. One of her latest performances is a choreography with violin virtuoso Pekka Kuusisto. The choroegraphy is made to Partita No. 3 in E Major of J.S. Bach. Nevanlinna has also made choreography for Helsinki Dance Institute and for Pyhäsalmi Dance Institute.

Nevanlinna is a member of AV-Arkki-The Distribution Centre for Finnish Media Art. Nevanlinna's video art have been showed in Hyvinkää Art Museum, Sara Hilden Art Museum and Boston Video Festival among others.

Nevanlinna has collaborated with sculptor Maria Duncker by making moving Camera Obscura-rides inside of a van. Nevanlinna and Duncker made also together a dance-video-music-performance A song of a little Spruce. Duncker has made costumes to several of Nevanlinna's dance pieces. In addition to this Nevanlinna has collaborated with photographer Elina Brotherus in the pictures Self-portraits with a dancer I-IV and on the videos The Lesson, Exercise 1-6 and The Care-Taker 1 and 2.

Nevanlinna has also played drums in the band Branded Women in 1999-2001.

 Nevanlinna enjoyed one-year- and half-year-grants from the National Council for Dance in 2002 and 2005. She is a member of the board of directors of Zodiak-Center for New Dance.
